(Ending 28/02/2019)

It’s another short week for me. Tomorrow I’m off to Cambridge for a toy photography meet-up.

I’ve not been to Cambridge before, and despite the forecast being not great, I’m really looking forward to it. (Couldn’t we have had the 20ºC sunshine at the weekend though?)

Five things

Back to this for today. My brain is full of anxiety (and possibly cold or allergies) and is not quite up for in-depth thoughts. I also felt like this whole week in the office was just lots of short meetings really (that probably could have been emails in some cases). That and a fire drill. Lot’s of disruption.

  1. I had a thing around the difference between ‘opening hours’ and ‘opening times’ this week. We seem to do it in several ways and I would like to make our site consistent. I tried to see if there was any research on it, but couldn’t find much. Customers seem to search for both as well, so that avenue wasn’t too helpful! (There was also a thing around Wi-Fi versus wifi. We’re now sticking to wifi.)
  2. A colleague officially handed their notice in this week. I am equal parts devastated (for me/the team) and happy (for them). More on this later I should think. There’s a lot more emotion to come there.
  3. Created a team Slack account at last. We’re supposed to be getting Microsoft Teams at some point, but it doesn’t seem to be coming very soon, so this is a good interim solution. I already love it, but we might face a little struggle getting some people to use it. Any suggestions on really selling it to others? I want it to replace emails with things like ‘here’s a minor thing you should know’, ‘here’s something cool from the internet’, etc.
  4. I was supposed to have two workshops next week on content, but both of them have been pushed back. This leaves me having to decide what I should work on in the meantime and is a little frustrating as I was looking forward to sinking my teeth into the topics at hand.
  5. I started writing a user testing plan based on what I learnt at the training I attended. I have only written out a structure for it so far, but my plan is after sorting out the monthly reporting on Monday, I’m going to dive head first into writing it and working out how to recruit people!

I realise that this is really short, not particularly out there in the realms of interesting things, but it kind of sums up my week. That, a lot of very bitty meetings, and this Porg.

Currently consuming

I started The Checklist Manifesto. It’s pretty interesting and has lots of cool examples in it!

I finally ordered Sarah Richard’s Content Design book. Looking forward to getting that.

Other stuff from the week

Me this week.

Did you see the #ProCopyChat on Twitter? That was pretty cool.

Migrated on my posts from Medium to WordPress. I really don’t want to buy a personal plan to have my own domain so this might be temporary.

Wrote this article on borrowing a camera for Toy Photographers.

Was shown this ‘Learn my way‘ site around digital inclusion which is a really useful tool.

I did #dayinthelife on Tuesday. This is documenting challenge where you record one day in your life in detail. For me, this meant an obnoxious amount of instagram stories, which I will print out and write up notes on someday soon.

Notes on this weeknote

Started at 17:05 on Thursday night. My first proper weeknote on WordPress. Let’s see how it goes.

Finished at 17:45ish on Thursday night. Going for simple and easy makes this process quicker!
