Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach. Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely. It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts, adding, adding to, adding more, continuing. — ‘We were made for these times’ by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

When writing my weeknotes, I collect things that I’ve read, watched and liked. I found that this week, most things I wanted to share were connected to COVID-19.

There have been beautiful, thoughtful words that I’ve found calming; so many open resources and tips for people finding themselves working from home; and lovely acts of human kindness.

I’m finding some of the media reporting, and opinions exhausting — and I’m befuddled by the choices of platforms being used to communicate important messages.

But the hopeful moments in these times are where communities continue to come together for the good of each other — where people’s time, expertise, knowledge and things are selflessly shared. These things have helped me this week, and this blog post serves as a bookmark in time for them — hopefully they’ll be helpful to you.

[Edit: I’m finding more and more things so I’ll keep adding to this blog post. Last updated Monday (2020–03–16)]

Things I’ve read either about COVID-19, or that have helped me reflect [or switch off] during these times.

Remote working tips, toolkits, etc.

[NB: I am not personally recommending tools for remote working — please use what is best for you/follow your organisational guidelines!]

The Open Data Institute have created their ‘resources to support working, collaborating and training remotely’. It won’t led me embed into this blog post — but you can access it at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10TkXOjKVHFwuApo4v2eEbgVVE1l0mf5gOKG8F6T7TO0/edit

Joyful things you can do from home

The comedian/writer Alison Spittle has created #covideoparty to bring everyone together at 9pm (GMT) each evening to watch a movie currently streaming on Netflix — with prizes for the best homemade fancy dress.

Why not try some birdwatching from home?
Adriene’s yoga videos are excellent — I really recommend her ’30 days of yoga’

Lovely acts of human kindness
